Each group of five volunteers is assigned 100 adjacent homes and trains those families on the basics of disaster preparedness. In a disaster the team activates and each volunteer checks on 20 adjacent homes, and communicates situations using walkie talkies. The NeighborHaven Organizer will have both a walkie talkie and a ham radio and will communicate issues to local authorities.
We will train you and then you will train others, in host livingrooms. Hosts will provide coffee and cookies or wine and cheese, or whatever is appropriate. It is usually 30 minutes of socializing, 30 minutes of training, and a further amount of socializing. This is important to build trust and cooperation between neighbors.
